Everything about EMERALD
Emerald (green stone) is one of the 4 precious stones, along with ruby (red stone), sapphire (blue stone) and diamond (white stone). It belongs to beryllium class and it gets this wonderful green color due to bromine impurities. It has been used in jewelry long ago and it has been found in the first Egyptian jewelry. It is said to have been one of Cleopatra's favorite gems. Today, it is widely used in jewelry and four key factors give the ultimate value to this stone.
1) Carat, as in any precious stone. Carats indicate how heavy and large the stone is, while one carat corresponds to 0.2 gram. Therefore, the larger the stone the greater its value and the smaller the stone the lower its value.
2) Color of the stone. As the color belong in the green range, its value grows and as it is distanced, its value decreases.
3) Transparency. The clearer and more transparent the stone, the higher its price, whereas if it has enclosed, its value is reduced, accordingly.
4) Cut. The more perfect the cut, the more precious the stone, and the lower the quality of the cut, the lower its price.
